Westlake Village hosts the Low Vision Support Group through the Cleveland Low Vision Center This monthly meeting is open to all individuals with any type of vision loss or impairment. It is an excellent source of empathy and practical advice run by blind and visually impaired persons with the help of sighted volunteers. The Alzheimer’s Association Caregiver Support Groups are designed to provide emotional, educational and social support for caregivers through regularly scheduled meetings. They help participants develop methods and skills to solve problems. The groups encourage caregivers to maintain their own personal, physical and emotional health, as well as optimal care for the person with dementia. Caregivers are often so concerned with caring for their loved one’s needs that they lose sight of their own well being. Healing Arts Workshops provide grieving people with a creative outlet for their grief and are open to all grieving people. No art experience is necessary. Register no later than four days in advance of workshop date. Suggested $5.00 donation for supplies.

Inspired by Tibetan prayer flags that are hung in the wind to send prayers and good wishes out into the universe, make a “batik” Legacy Banner to share your loved one’s gift, talent, or favorite quote with the world! Participants will make two flags, one to hang at home and one to hang somewhere on the grounds or in the buildings of Hospice of the Western Reserve.

Participants will create their own mandala design and paint both sides of a bisque (unglazed china) dinner plate with ceramic glazes at the first session. The plates will be kiln-fired during the week so that we can use them for our potluck meal at the second session, which will be devoted to sharing about the process. Bring your loved one’s or your own favorite food to share!
