Childbirth Education & Programs

If you are planning on delivering or thinking about delivering at St. John Medical Center please feel free to call the Maternity Department at 440-827-5093 and schedule a tour of the department. You will be able to ask questions of the caregivers, see a labor and delivery room and meet the staff.

The Holistic Birth Center Orientation

Come join the excitement and see Northeastern Ohio’s only Holistic Birthing Center at St. John Medical Center. The orientation will cover the criteria for utilizing the birth center. We will share topics surrounding natural childbirth options, including hydrotherapy, aromatherapy, music therapy and relaxation techniques in an effort to achieve a satisfying birth experience. This class is open to anyone interested in exploring childbirth options.
A tour of the Holistic Birth Center will complete the class. A folder of information will be mailed out to you when registering for the class. Free.

Warm Water Immersion During Labor and Doula Services

Learn about the soothing relaxing properties of hydrotherapy during labor while being introduced to the unique services offered by a midwife and a doula. A tour of a water birthing room will complete the class. Free.

Breastfeeding Support Group

Natural Family Planning - Set of three classes necessary for each session

A healthy and highly-effective way for a couple to understand and cooperate with how a woman’s body works in order to achieve or postpone pregnancy. This class enhances
communication and respect for the gift of life. Couples switching to Natural Family
Planning report greater marital intimacy. Participation of all classes necessary.

Childbirth Classes Includes Infant Care, six week course #1412

Preparation for childbirth can increase the joyful experience and confidence of the
mother-to-be and her partner. Learn about nutrition, exercise, relaxation, breathing and

Childbirth Weekend Classes Two Saturday classes #1413

Infant Care Classes #1415

Classes help to prepare new parents in the care of their newborn and what to expect in
the first weeks. Different techniques in bathing, diapering, feeding and swaddling are
demonstrated. All questions are answered.

Bradley Method of Prepared Childbirth #1415 12 class series

The Bradley Method focuses on a natural, un-medicated childbirth in the absence of medical complications. This 12 class series stresses the importance of a healthy baby, healthy mom and healthy family. Emphasis is placed on nutrition, exercise, coaching and the natural process of labor and birth.
