Celebrate Westlake 2006 celebrates its 16th anniversary

Celebrate Westlake 2006

Busy schedule for popular event includes adult run, kids’ fun run, walk as well as a health and fitness expo

It’s time for Celebrate Westlake 2006, a 5-mile run and 3.4 mile walk fundraiser that starts with day-of-the-race registration from 6:45-8 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2, at St. John Medical Center, 29000 Center Ridge Road, Westlake. The run begins at 8:30 a.m. and the walk takes off at 8:30 a.m. too. Both the run and walk will start and finish on Center Ridge Road, just north of the hospital.

"This is our 16th anniversary year," says William "Bud" Hagy, race director, and local business owner. "Our longevity can be attributed to the tremendous support received from our many sponsors, especially our founding sponsor, St. John Medical Center, additional sponsors, and our wonderful volunteer base.” Hagy adds, “It’s hard to believe that 2006 marks our 16th anniversary with hosting this event. Our success reflects the efforts of many individuals who have taken the time to make this event the best of its kind as well as the community who support it with their participation. I commend the hard work of the many planners and supporters and thank the community for its ongoing support."

Hagy anticipates this year’s race to be the best ever. In addition to the run and walk, a half- and 1-mile kids' fun run, and an adult health and fitness expo will round out the day’s events. The kids’ fun run starts at 9:45 a.m. and will be held on the fitness trail. There will be prize money and/or award trophies presented to winners in both the adult and kids’ races. Awards will be presented at 11 a.m. New to this year will be male/female awards to the first place winners who reside in Westlake.

The Health and Fitness ExpoThe Health and Fitness Expo, from 8 a.m. to noon, includes local merchants and vendors who will display the latest in health and wellness products. In addition, St. John West Shore Community Outreach programs will provide free blood pressure readings, along with demonstrations from other organizations. Also, there will be free sport massages, pizza, fruit, cookies and beverages. Children will enjoy free face painting, giveaways and their own food tent.
