Westlake -- St. John Medical Center recently announced Doreen Beddow, RN, BSN of the Emergency Department as its 2007 recipient of the Nurse Excellence Award. The Nurse Excellence Award is annually bestowed on a nurse who exemplifies the best of the nursing profession and the passion and commitment to SJWS and its mission.
Doreen was nominated by her co-workers because of her extremely hard work ethic and dedication to not only her patients but colleagues as well. She has worked in the Emergency Department for 18 years and has been a RN for 28 years with experience in areas ranging from neonatology to neurology making her a valuable resource and enabling her to tend to a variety of patients. Serving as an active member on the Nursing Council, Doreen is currently developing a unit governance committee, within the Emergency Department.
“Doreen is a highly-valued employee who on a daily basis, lives the mission of the hospital and is fully committed to providing the best in quality care. Her leadership skills and attention to detail have earned her high marks from her colleagues as well as from the medical staff,” remarked Cliff Coker, Interim President, St. John Medical Center.
Along with working full time and managing a busy household with three children, Doreen achieved her personal goal of earning her BSN, which she accomplished last spring. She has shown her leadership ability by working extra hours beyond the forty hour work week and serving as a role model for others. Doreen is well respected by her peers along with the physicians who work in the department. Her overall enthusiasm and commitment to her work serve as a testament to why she was chosen to receive this outstanding recognition.
