Diagnostic Radiology

This category includes the following:

• Nuclear Medicine
  Nuclear medicine is a subspecialty within radiology. It comprises diagnostic examinations, using injected radio isotopes, that result in images of body anatomy and function. Generally, radiation to the patient is similar to that resulting from standard x-ray examinations.
• CAT Scan
  Computed tomography (CT)—sometimes called CAT scan—uses special x-ray equipment to obtain image data from different angles around the body, then uses computer processing of the information to show a cross-section of body tissues and organs.
• Ultrasound
  Ultrasound (US) imaging, also called ultrasound scanning or sonography, is a method of obtaining images of internal organs by sending high-frequency sound waves into the body.
• Bone Densitometry
  To detect osteoporosis accurately, doctors use an enhanced form of x-ray technology called dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA or DEXA). DEXA is a quick, painless procedure for measuring bone loss. Measurement of the lower spine and hips are most often done.
• Mammography
  MMammography is a specific type of imaging that uses a low-dose x-ray system for examination of the breasts.
• MRI
  Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a method of producing extremely detailed pictures of body tissues and organs without the need for x-rays.

Interventional Radiology:

This category includes the following:

• Angiography (Interventional)
  Angiography is a type of x-ray that is done to image blood vessels in various parts of the body, including the heart, brain, and kidneys, so as to determine whether the vessels are diseased, narrowed, enlarged or blocked altogether.
