What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational Therapy helps to restore function with activities of daily living, from getting in and out of the shower, to the ability to write a check. The Occupational Therapy Program at St. John West Shore Hospital is designed to restore optimum functional living to the client through rehabilitation. Various therapeutic techniques and interventions are utilized to help patients regain their maximum level of independence. Our therapist will carefully assess each patient's functional status and design an individualized treatment plan.

The Occupational Therapy Staff includes a certified hand therapist, a certified work conditioning evaluator and a certified Lymphedema specialist. These are specialized credentials that are not found in every clinic.

Inpatient Therapy

Inpatient therapy is located at St. John West Shore Hospital. It is offered in acute care, the skilled nursing unit, and the joint and spine center, which will open this fall.

Inpatient Therapy Hours

6:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. Thursday-Tuesday
6:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Wednesday

Outpatient Therapy

Our new State-of-the-Art outpatient facility opened May 10, 2007. It features a highly qualified staff and high performance Cybex exercise equipment. At our new location we can offer patients the best possible therapy to improve and restore maximum movement and functional ability.

Once you obtain a referral from your physician, you can call our office at (440) 414-6050 to set up an appointment.

Directions to Outpatient Therapy

From the East:

  • Take I-90 West
  • Merge onto Columbia Road/Ohio 252 via Exit 159
  • Turn Right onto Detroit Road/Ohio 254
  • Pass through intersection at Canterbury Road
  • Westlake Family Health Center is on the North side of Detroit Road between Canterbury Road and Dover Center Road

From the West:

  • Take I-90 East/Ohio 2
  • Merge onto Crocker Road via Exit 156 toward Bassett Road
  • Turn Right into Crocker Road
  • Turn Left onto Detroit Road/Ohio 254
  • Westlake Family Health Center is on the North side of Detroit Road between Canterbury Road and Dover Center Road

Physical Therapy is also offered by St. John West Shore Hospital.

The Spine and Orthopedic Center at St. John West Shore Hospital will be celebrating its grand opening in mid-November. The Center not only provides state-of-the-art technology and 5-star services to its "guests" but operates in a luxurious hotel setting. The Center will host a community open house to celebrate the opening with educational brochures, unit tours, health screenings and talks from spine and orthopedic surgeons and specialists. More information will be available at a future date.
