It's "A Salute to the Summer Olympics" for St. John West Shore Hosptial Festival of the Arts 2008 Patron Benefit

Now celebrating its 16th anniversary, the St. John West Shore Hospital (SJWS) Festival of the Arts is one of the premier fine arts and crafts shows in Northeastern Ohio. This year festival-goers will need to reserve the following dates and times (open to the public hours): Friday, July 11 from 6 – 9 pm; Saturday, July 12 from 10 am – 7 pm and Sunday, July 13, from 10 am – 5 pm.

Each year, the weekend is kicked off with a Patron Benefit that serves as the Hospital's major fundraiser. This year on Friday, July 11, from 6 – 10 pm, partygoers are invited to attend an evening boasting a Summer Olympics theme. The Summer Olympics takes place only once every four years. This year, patrons will celebrate the spirit of the games and cheer on the United States in its quest for "The Gold". Party-goers are encouraged to keep a spectator eyes alert as they enter the SJWS Olympic Village – and maybe catch a glimpse of a U.S. Gold Medal winner from years past! To get the party started, The Jerry Bruno Orchestra will play hits from The Great American Songbook while party-goers feast on All-American cuisine provided by A Taste of Excellence, one of Northeast Ohio's premier caterers. While the evening calls for casual dress, red, white and blue attire is highly encouraged, and will serve as the perfect accompaniment as patrons root for their favorite athletes!

Tickets are $100 per person; and $125 for collector status that includes a mention in event program. Serving as the 2008 Festival of the Arts’ Patron Benefit Chairpersons are Ardis Radak, Patrick Garmone, Eileen Hayes and Carol Sterba.

In between courses, Patrons will also have the opportunity to be among the first to view the works of more than 200 artists and craft persons who will display and sell one-of-a-kind artistic treasures. Artists from all over the United States who make furniture, baskets, jewelry, and clothing — to name only a few of the items — compete to be included.

Patron Benefit net proceeds will go toward the St. John West Shore Hospital Community Outreach and Wellness Ministry programs. With a primary focus on "“preventative health care," the Community Outreach & Wellness Ministry programs offer the community such services as parenting and babysitting classes, health talks and screenings, support groups and an immunization clinic. These services are available to the community at little or no cost. This year funds have also been earmarked for the Graduate Medical Education Program at St. John West Shore Hospital as well as the purchase of cardiac monitoring equipment.

"It's amazing how the event has grown over the years,” says Cliff J. Coker, St. John West Shore Hospital President. "The weekend would not be possible without the tremendous support received by our sponsors, the community-at-large and the wonderful artists," he adds.

In addition to arts and crafts, the 2008 Festival of the Arts features live musical entertainment, food court and family fun. Situated along a one-half-mile walking track, a diverse representation of mixed media will include jewelry, wearable art, stained glass, basketry, ceramics, watercolors, oils, photography and more. The Festival of the Arts is a juried show and prize money is awarded to winners in several categories.

"As a Catholic Hospital, we have made it a tradition to offer a public Outdoor Mass on Sunday, July 13, at 9 am," says Coker. "Last year several hundred area residents attended the Mass."

If you are feeling lucky take a chance on WDOK Fifth Third Bank's popular $102,000 Mega Money Machine that is returning on Saturday and Sunday. The LifeShare Community Blood Services will be on campus for those wishing to donate blood. "St. John West Shore Hospital is a perfect location to host this type of venue," says Coker. "This event affords us an opportunity in which to thank the community for its on going support."
